Panola College offers a two-week comprehensive distance learning training program. Their program is not restricted to members of their own faculty; anyone with an interest in distance education may register and attend. Grants and scholarships for this program are occasionally available. Panola College’s comprehensive program is superior to what you’ll find offered elsewhere at a significantly higher cost, and is designed for those who wish to teach ITV or web-based courses. Experienced distance education faculty members present a rigorous program taught in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Visit Panola College’s Distance Learning Certification Program page for more information.
Stephen F. Austin University offers a series of workshops for their own faculty members, including Course Enhancement, Fundamental Instructional Technology Skills, Master Online Instructional Technology Skills, and Web Course Development Workshops. The Office of Instructional Technology at SFA recommends approaching the development and delivery of web-based courses as a three-semester process. They provide a helpful timeline for the process on their web page.
In addition to providing training on their virtual courseware, web page design, and assorted office packages, Sam Houston State University offers custom-made training to their own faculty members.
Texas A&M Commerce has helped their faculty become acquainted with integrating technology into their courses by using “faculty technology mentors.” The Instructional Technology and Distance Education Department provides TAMU Commerce faculty with a list of colleagues who have agreed to answer questions about the use of various software products in the classroom. These faculty members volunteer for this service, with the understanding that they will answer questions – not provide formal training.
