The Northeast Texas Network Consortium is the collaborative effort of 15 higher education institutions to bring a wide range of instruction to 50 rural Northeast Texas counties containing 46% of the rural Texas population. NETnet is an organization commissioned by The Honorable William “Bill” Ratliff and backed by a higher educational need assessment conducted in 1994 by the National Center for Higher Education Management (Boulder, CO). The major consortium objective is to make available, via innovative technology applications (NETnet, the Northeast Texas network) a diverse curriculum, specifically designed to meet the evolving needs of a highly competitive, yet geographically isolated, client population. The 15 NETnet presidents are committed to a vision whereby the member institutions provide superior services to their east Texas clientele and maximize the return on investment made on the educational delivery system. Additionally, NETnet members can also serve as demonstration sites and provide leadership in the development of mechanisms by which other rural areas of the State can gain the benefits of postsecondary education and access to other services that are now beyond their reach. |
