If you have an interest in the staffing and organization of educational IT departments, here’s a new report by EDUCAUSE. It provides detailed information about how individual institutions' IT planning, staffing, and budgets compare with each other.

We are posting the information we receive on the various distance learning department structures, organizational charts, job responsibilities, etc. on this page as they are emailed to us. The first submissions are below:

2-year Institution: The Distance Learning Department is under the Dean of Student Learning. Currently there is a Director and no other personnel assigned. Two (2) students are assigned each term from the Web Design class to help maintain the DL website.

Distance Learning course enrollment for the Fall 2003 term was 196 students which increased to 295 students enrolled in the Spring 2004 term, representing a 51% growth.

Dual Credit enrollment for Spring 2003 was 8 students from 2 schools which increased to 51 students enrolled in the Fall 2003 from 4 schools representing a 537% growth. Currently there are 156 Dual Credit students enrolled in the Spring 2004 term from 7 schools representing an additional 205% growth between terms.

Web-assisted course enrollment in the Fall 2003 was 65 students in 4 courses. Currently there are 86 students enrolled in 5 web-assisted courses representing a 31% growth. Faculty have requested 7 additional courses be opened for development and implementation in the Fall 2004 term.

K-12 Institution: DL responsibilities fall under the system admin area. The system was used approximately 50 hours this year; that number should triple next year
